Jan 30


Journal: What kind of funeral do you want to have? What do you want done with your body? Who do you want to come to your funeral?

In class: We used the Egypt PowerPoint to fill out the Egypt guided notes, we made our class mummies 'Muphasa' and 'Mommy' and we passed out the test review sheets because.... 
YOUR TEST IS NEXT CLASS, YOUR PACKETS, LEARNING TARGETS, JOURNALS, AND CURRENT EVENTS ARE DUE NEXT CLASS!!!

Remember:
1. Polytheistic= Worship of many gods. (The Egyptians were polytheistic).
2. The Egyptians believed in an after life and thus preserved their dead.


Remember:
1. The Nile River provides rich soil in a desert environment. The Nile flows north and the wind blows south.
2. Pharaohs were the kings of Egypt. They claimed to be gods.
3. Pyramids were the burial spots of the pharaohs. They were huge.
4. The Rosetta Stone allowed us to figure out the Egyptian Hieroglyphic system.

Current Event: Go to cnn.com/studentnews to fill out the current event (day 4)

In class: We filled out the China notes (use the PowerPoint) and did the foot binding activity... congrats to Chanel

REMEMBER:
Family and honor are very important in the Chinese society.
Men are treated better than women.
There are different standards of beauty throughout the world

Current Event: This will be your 3rd current Event; go to cnn.com/studentnews

In class: We finished up the Indus River Valley stations (pink packet) if you were absent you can print off the packet (found under the Unit 1 Tab) and you will need to check out a book from the library.  We had a group quiz on the Indus River Valley.

Homework: Finish up your learning target for Day 4 if you didn't finish in class. You will also need to complete the Asia map before next class period.

Journal: What is an invention you couldn't live without? 

Current Event: We watched cnn.com/studentnews and filled out day 2 on your current event worksheet

In class: Today we learned about the Indus River Valley early civilizations; we go the Indus River Valley packets and started the 6 stations- we will finish up on Monday! All of the information can be found under the Unit 1 tab :) 

Homework: Finish your Learning Target, if you didn't do so in class

REMEMBER: 
1. Indus River Vally civilization is in India
2. It had a strong central government, traded with far away places, and was peaceful
3. We don't know exactly why the civilization ended, but it could do with the river changing course or invaders

Journal: Why was Provo built where it was?

In Class: We talked about the first civilizations in the Middle East and filled out the Sumerian Note guide in your packet which goes along with the Mesopotamia PowerPoint; we also learned about Cuneiform and practiced writing it in Play-Dough

Homework: Fill out the blank map of the middle east in your packets!

REMEMBER: 
1. Mesopotamia is one of the first civilizations and is in the Middle East
2. The Tigris and Euphrates Rivers make for rich farm land. Civilizations build cities around rivers
3. Mesopotamia developed writing systems, inventions, a social hierarchy, and a government

Today in class we:

Journal: If you could go back in time and witness/be part of any event in history what would it be and why? 3-5 sentences

Current Event: Go to cnn.com/studentnews watch all 3 news stories and fill out your current event guide (found under documents if you don't have one from class)

In Class: We took notes on the Pre-History note guide (1st page in your packet) and using Pre-History PowerPoint. With the remainder of class we worked on the "create a Civilization" page in your packet- if you did not finish this will be homework.

Learning Target: Day 2- I changed the LT to "I can compare hunters and gatherers" and "I can explain the 5 parts of a Civilization" Please change this on your LT guide and fill out the prove it, and important boxes

Homework: Bring your signed disclosure document to me BY TUESDAY,  finish the create a civilization worksheet

REMEMBER:
1. Walking upright, fire, stone tools, and language allowed humans to develop.
2. The Agricultural revolution is the shift from hunting and gathering to farming which allowed for a population increase.
3. The 5 characteristics of civilization are: Advanced cities, specialized workers, complex institutions, record keeping, and advanced technology

At the end of class today, we went over inferences.... make sure you understand what they are :)
